Purpose
Save the Books!
SeminaryLibrary.com is a state-of- the-art digitization program specifically focused on resources found in seminary libraries. Starting with a collection of more than 5,000 digitized books, SeminaryLibrary.com aspires to be the world's largest online library of historic Bible reference books and resources. Logos Bible Software is working with theological libraries all across the country to digitize all available public domain titles. This is a multi-year task.
Time has forgotten many of these titles. While a precious few have enjoyed a "second life" through reprints, most are printed only once. A scant few copies from that original print run may survive in circulation at a few libraries, but the balance has disappeared. Some of these books may be the last known copies. Even if multiple copies remain, they exist only in other libraries or private collections. Every passing year sees more of these rare books being discarded, destroyed, or sent to garage sales to free up space for newer titles. As a consequence, many of these books are impossible to purchase; you can't even find them on the internet. This vast pool of orphaned books represents centuries of Bible reference publishing virtually unknown to the present generation, who have never seen, handled, nor had the opportunity to lay eyes on these titles which were everyday resources for generations of pastors and teachers before them. As each day passes, more of these books continue to slip through the cracks, going from being merely hard to locate to extinct. There are tens of thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) of such titles that the Christian community is likely to lose forever unless someone does something. Someone needs to take action before it is too late.
We are that someone!
What makes this rescue mission so exciting is that we take these rare old books from one extreme to the other in a single motion. Before SeminaryLibrary.com you might need to literally get on an airplane to visit a library where a single copy of a desired book may or may not be checked out. Today, the same title in SeminaryLibrary.com is available to any number of users simultaneously. Users see actual page images in full size, full color, and in high resolution, on any computer with internet access, anywhere in the world, twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. Where there was one, now there are many. It is like having the actual book in your hands. And best of all, the library comes to you instead of you going to the library.
Now you can experience the wealth of this treasure by subscribing to Logos Bible Software's SeminaryLibrary.com. Your participation ensures the continued growth of the library and at the same time empowers Bible students, pastors and missionaries all over the world with access to resources they would never otherwise have.
